Dr. Manmohan Singh, India’s former Prime Minister, passed away on Thursday night at the age of 92 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). As the country’s 13th Prime Minister and the first Sikh to assume the role, Singh led the Congress-backed United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government from May 2004 to May 2014.

We regret to inform you of the death of Dr Manmohan Singh, India’s former Prime Minister, at the age of 92. He was being treated for age-related medical issues when he suddenly lost consciousness at home on December 26, 2024.

Resuscitative procedures were initiated immediately at home. At 8:06 p.m., he was taken to AIIMS in New Delhi for a medical emergency. Despite all efforts, he was unable to be resuscitate and was pronounced dead at 9:51 p.m., according to a hospital statement.

Dr. Manmohan Singh, who stepped away from public life after the Congress faced defeat against the BJP in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, made his last appearance in the Rajya Sabha, where he served as a member, in August 2023.
