Hyderabad: Two detained for ‘voyeurism’ at a private college’s girls hostel; principal charged.

A case was filed on charges of voyeurism, abetment to commit a crime, and other pertinent parts of the law, including the POSCO Act.

Hyderabad police detained two people on Sunday for alleged voyeurism at a private engineering college in Medchal, after female students accused the culinary staff of secretly photographing them in their hostel washrooms.

The women’s suspicions provoked enormous protests at the college on January 1 and 2, and a complaint was filed against seven people, including the two arrested people, the college’s principal, director, and chairman, according to a news agency.

The case was filed at the Medchal police station on allegations of voyeurism, abetment to commit a crime, and other applicable provisions of the law, including those under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Simply described, voyeurism is the act of secretly viewing individuals inside a private place, such as a toilet or trial room, with indecent intent.

The two arrested individuals, both 20 years old, were accused of peeping into the female students’ restrooms. One of the two is a cook’s helper. A police spokesman confirmed that both of them had been placed in judicial detention.

According to police, the two accused had easy access to the girls’ hostel washrooms because they were staying nearby, posing a major threat to the juvenile victims’ safety and privacy.

Furthermore, the police claimed that the girls’ dormitory wardens ignored the victims’ complaints in order to avoid escalating the situation to the police or their parents.

The principle, director, and chairman pressed the dormitory wardens to control the situation and prevent exposure in order to protect the college’s reputation, while displaying no interest in reporting the incident to the appropriate authorities. This encouraged and enabled the two accused to engage in voyeurism.

Police added that further investigation into the issue is underway.

In a similar instance in Delhi last month, a guy was detained for concealing a cell phone with the camera turned on inside a women’s restroom at a government hospital in Dwarka.

According to reports – the woman worked as a housekeeper in the hospital.

The conduct was discovered when a woman’s phone unexpectedly rang, catching her attention after she went to the restroom. The accused admitted to the police that he had been practicing voyeurism for a month.
