OYO an Indian hospitality brand, has implemented a new check-in process for its partner hotels, beginning in Meerut. This policy, which goes into force this year, specifies that unmarried couples will no longer be allowed to check in.

Couples will be asked to produce legitimate proof of their relationship upon checking in under the amended standards, including internet bookings. OYO has given its partner hotels the authority to deny bookings from couples based on their discretion, in accordance with local social standards, the business noted.

OYO has directed its Meerut-based partner hotels to follow this policy immediately. The organization may expand to other locations based on field input, according to the report.

Business executives stated that OYO has previously faced feedback from civil society organizations, especially in Meerut, urging them to take measures to resolve this matter. Furthermore, individuals from certain other cities have filed petitions seeking a ban on allowing unmarried couples to check into OYO hotels.

While we value individual freedoms and personal autonomy, we also understand our responsibility to work with law enforcement and civil society organizations in the areas where we operate. We will continue to assess the policy’s impact on a regular basis.

OYO seeks to shift perception.
This project is part of OYO’s larger strategy to reframe old attitudes and position the company as a brand that provides a safe experience for families, students, business travelers, religious groups, and solitary travelers.

The initiative also tries to encourage longer stays and repeat reservations, thereby increasing consumer trust and loyalty.

Furthermore, OYO has launched pan-India initiatives such as collaborative seminars on safe hospitality with police and hotel partners, blacklisting hotels engaged in immoral acts, and taking action against unauthorized hotels utilizing the OYO name.
