The trailer for Emergency, published on Monday, quickly became a trending topic. The film stars Kangana Ranaut as India’s former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.Kangana Ranaut published the trailer on Instagram, captioned “1975, Emergency — A Defining Chapter in Indian History.” Indira is India’s most powerful woman. “Her ambition transformed the nation, but her #EMERGENCY threw it into chaos.”
Set in 1975, the clip depicts the pandemonium of the Emergency times. The film goes extensively into the political milieu of the time, with dramatic speeches from young Atal Bihari Vajpayee (Shreyas Talpade) and ferocious pushback from Jayaprakash Narayan (Anupam Kher). Characters such as Jagjivan Ram (the late Satish Kaushik), Pupul Jayakar (Mahima Chaudhary), and Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw (Milind Soman) play important roles in this compelling political story.
According to Report, Kangana Ranaut issued a statement following the release of the Emergency trailer.

Kangana Ranaut directs and stars in Emergency, which contains an excellent supporting ensemble that includes Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik.
Zee Studios, Manikarnika Films, and Renu Pitti are the film’s producers. It is scheduled for release on January 17.
