Congress MLA Uma Thomas from Kerala is in critical condition after a 15-foot fall at Kochi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Hospital sources confirmed that the MLA, currently on ventilator support, is undergoing intensive medical treatment.

On Sunday evening, Uma Thomas, who represents Thrikkakara, suffered serious head and spine injuries after tumbling from the stadium’s gallery.

Volunteers and other individuals rushed the severely bleeding MLA to a private hospital located near the stadium.

As stated in a medical report released by the hospital, head and spinal injuries were identified. Additionally, internal bleeding in the lungs occurred due to fractures in the facial bones and ribs.

Hospital authorities mentioned that the MLA’s condition remains critical, and they continue to administer treatment in intensive care, with ventilator assistance.

She suffered a head trauma and several broken bones. It’s crucial that she be observed for the next 24 hours. We’re providing all necessary medical support,” said VD Satheesan, Leader of Opposition in Kerala, speaking to ANI on Sunday night.

Initially, we thought it was a severe situation,” he continued.

Footage of the incident spread across social media, showing attendees at the venue carrying an unconscious Uma Thomas and rushing her to the hospital.

What occurred?
Uma Thomas had attended the Mridanga Naadam, a Bharatanatyam event, at the stadium, which was set to be inaugurated by Kerala’s Minister of Culture, Saji Cherian.

The event showcased approximately 12,000 performers, with actor-dancer Divya Unni among them, all presenting Bharatanatyam in an effort to break a Guinness World Record.

According to information from congressional insiders, the gap between the front row seating and the gallery’s edge was extremely tight, and the space was secured with a ribbon.

Sources indicate that she reportedly struck her head on the concrete surface after tumbling from the stadium’s VIP section, which stood about 15 feet above the ground.

State Health Minister Veena George, along with Industries Minister P Rajeeve, visited the hospital and revealed that a specialized medical team from the Health Department would soon collaborate with the facility’s existing doctors.

The team, headed by Dr. Jayakumar, the Superintendent of Kottayam Medical College, comprises experts from both Kottayam and Ernakulam Government Medical Colleges, in addition to the hospital’s current medical staff.

The Health Minister also had a meeting with Minister Rajeeve, responsible for the district, to talk about MLA Uma Thomas’s current treatment with the doctors in charge.
