RG Kar Medical College case.
The tragedy in Gwalior occurred months after a 31-year-old postgraduate doctor was brutally raped and murdered by a civic volunteer inside the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. On August 9, police retrieved the body of a lady doctor from the premises.
The primary accused in the case, civic volunteer Sanjay Roy, has been nabbed by Kolkata police. The probe was moved to the CBI as directed by the Calcutta High Court. The central agency also arrested former college principal Sandeep Ghosh and Tala police station officer Abhijeet Mondal for allegedly destroying evidence in the case. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is also investigating Ghosh for financial irregularities committed during his tenure, based on a CBI case.
The CBI has filed a chargesheet against Sanjay Roy, the principal accused in the rape and murder of the on-duty doctor. A Kolkata court discharged Ghosh and Mondal after the agency failed to file a charge sheet against them within 90 days.
The Joint Platform of Doctors (JPD), an umbrella body of various doctors’ associations, has voiced dissatisfaction with the pace of the probe and has scheduled a series of protests beginning in December last year.
