Tumko Meri Kasam review: Anupam Kher does his best to redeem this muddled, too ambitious picture.
Tumko Meri Kasam.
Cast: Anupam Kher, Adah Sharma, Ishwak Singh, and Esha Deol
Director: Vikram Bhatt.
Rated: ★★.5
There are medical dramas. There are legal dramas. There are biopics. Then there’s Tumko Meri Kasam, which is a little of everything but can’t be termed any of the above. I would have used the phrase ‘Jack of all trades, master of none’ to sum it up, but the film is just too complicated to be that.
What is Tumko Meri Kasam about?
The plot revolves around Dr. Ajay Murdia (Anupam Kher), the founder of Indira IVF, and his endeavors to establish it with his wife Indira (Adah Sharma). The film alternates between the past and the present, with Ajay entangled in a court dispute. This back-and-forth narrative will try your patience, with the first hour seeming like an eternity.
Vikram Bhatt’s script and direction suffer from an overemphasis on Jay and Indira’s love story, which feels tedious. The interactions between Ajay and Indira are drawn out and lack dynamism. Even the editing, performed by Kuldip Mehan, appears sluggish, as the film clocks in at two hours and 30 minutes.
The second half picks up the pace, but by that point, the viewer is fatigued. Anupam Kher is the one saving grace, adding weight to the part. At this stage, the man can play such personas well even while asleep. Adah Sharma and Ishwak Singh, who portray the younger versions of Ajay and Indira, have their moments but are let down by the writing. Adah particularly struggles at important scenes.
The supporting ensemble, which includes Meherrzan B Mazda as the adversary and Esha Deol as a lawyer, is adequate, although their roles appear underdeveloped. At one point in the climax, Anupam’s character is forced to represent himself in court and makes a vital case. I couldn’t help but question what her character is required for, if her client must stand up for himself.
In conclusion
Tumko Meri Kasam features a weak storyline that lacks engagement and depth. It’s a dull affair that fails to deliver on its promises. Even diehard Anupam fans may find themselves checking their timepieces. Kasam se.
