Thousands of people in Soraha village in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun district are without power after thieves took all of the vital pieces from a local energy transformer on December 14.
During their normal walks, villagers discovered a missing 250kVA transformer and reported it to the local authorities. Later, it was discovered that all important parts worth selling—copper wires, oil, and other metal elements—were stolen, and the transformer was discarded in a neighboring field.
The occurrence occurred in the midst of a cold and dense fog that covered key regions in northern India. A power outage has hampered the study of pupils in the town preparing for state board exams due for next month.
“Without power, inverters and mobile phones are useless, and submersible pumps do not work,” village chief Satpal Singh told.
An executive engineer from the energy department stated that a temporary power source had been established from a nearby village. “Most thefts occur throughout the winter. Engineer Narendra Chaudhary stated, “We have requested extra police patrols.
However, residents questioned his account, accusing local government officials of being indifferent to their predicament and calling for a solution.
Police filed a FIR against unknown individuals. Initial investigations, such as tracing cell phone calls and CCTV footage, have helped the police gather clues. The official further said that the theft of a live wire indicated the presence of an inside.

On October 26, last year, a gang in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur came into contact with a live wire, and one of the suspects perished as a result of an electric shock. The gang members dropped the body into the Ganga and fled with the transformer pieces.
The incident came to light after the deceased’s wife filed a missing person report with the local police. Police located all of the defendants, and a local court sentenced them to jail.
