The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced a modification to its metro service timetable, with trains beginning at 4:15 a.m. on Mondays, January 13.
According to BMRCL, the move was made to increase travel convenience for customers returning to Bengaluru from weekend travels.Namma Metro stated, “The updated schedule is designed to provide passengers with immediate access to metro services upon arrival, making their commute more convenient and time-efficient.”
This adjustment is primarily intended to assist travelers arriving at important transit hubs such as the City Railway Station and the Kempegowda Bus Stand, hence improving last-mile connectivity for early-morning commutes.
BMRCL verified that this adjustment is only for Mondays, with no changes to metro timings on other days. From Tuesday to Sunday, metro services will continue to begin at 5:00 a.m., as per the current schedule.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru’s Namma Metro commuters may soon face a significant fare increase, with ticket rates expected to rise by 40-45%—the first increase in over eight years. This probable change comes after the government-appointed fare fixation committee submitted its suggestions to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) board.
Before suggesting the fare change, the committee carefully considered several aspects. In October 2024, public opinions were sought to guarantee that commuter feedback was taken into account during the decision-making process. The final report was sent to the BMRCL board last week.
The board is anticipated to evaluate and likely accept the fare raise request at its meeting on January 17. However, there is opposition to the proposed fee hike, as the metro has been a lifeline for IT capital, with lakhs of workers commuting every day.
