Khushi Kapoor discusses her forthcoming film, Loveyapa, and how it is different from her first, The Archies.
Khushi Kapoor’s big screen debut is finally here. The actress first appeared in a feature film with The Archies, which premiered exclusively on Netflix. She will make her big-screen debut with her upcoming movie, Loveyapa.
Your previous film, The Archies, went straight to OTT. Loveyapa is hitting theaters soon! Can you spot any changes? Are you noticing anything different in the air this time?
I’m not sure if the distinction is because it’s theatre and OTT. I believe the processes were significantly different for me because it was my first film and this is my third. I have lot more confidence in myself, and I am much more conscious of how things are going. Throughout the first film, I had no prior information. Now, I believe I understand how things operate. The process was considerably simpler on my mind and body.
How has your experience evolved during your brief time in this industry? What key insights have you gained so far?
I’ve come to understand the significance of perception—not just in how you engage with others, but also in how you are viewed beyond your work in film. During The Archies, I spent most of my time alone. My nature is not one that enjoys being out there, but I believe you should put yourself out there and be more conversational. I am a shy person. I believe I am now more free and confident in speaking, but it is a gradual process, and the more you work, the simpler it becomes.
Without diminishing The Archies, Loveyapa offers a unique viewing experience since it is theatrical. It is something your sister or mother has done for many years. Is that registering?
When we walked into the theater for the trailer launch and saw the trailer and some of the songs on the big screen, I started shaking. I assumed it was casual. It’s simply the trailer, which I’ve already watched. It would be fine. When it appeared on the big screen, I was stunned and thought, “Oh, damn, this is real!” There is extra stress because of box office results and other issues to consider when considering a theatrical release. However, I find it truly extraordinary. So I did my thing.I did my best.
Loveyapa is Junaid’s second film, and your third. But then you have Ashutosh Rana, who has done it all. How do you approach a situation when you’re performing beside someone like them? Do you feel the need to make an impression on them?
I was initially intimidated because he is so much older than me and such a talented actor. And I believe my main goal was to hold my own in the moment rather than just pause and break, but he was just fantastic on set. His energy was very pleasant and collaborative. He is always generating fresh ideas and exploring different approaches, which, in my opinion, makes the whole process more engaging and enjoyable for everyone. A lot of what he would do would be impromptu, and he would decide midway through the take, throwing us off, but it would result in such a positive reaction that you would want to keep going and work off of it.
Advait Chandan directs Loveyapa, which stars Khushi and Junaid Khan, as well as Ashutosh Rana and Kiku Sharda. The movie is set to hit theaters on February 7 through official distribution.
