About the film
Chhaava is a historical action film directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films. It is about the life of Maratha ruler Sambhaji, played by Vicky Kaushal. Rashmika Mandanna plays Maharani Yesubai, Akshaye Khanna portrays Aurangzeb, Ashutosh Rana plays Sarsenapati Hambirao Mohite, and Divya Dutta plays Soyarabai. It is an adaption of Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel Chhava. A. R. Rahman composed the film’s score and soundtrack album, which has lyrics by Irshad Kamil.
“Chhaava could have been a powerful tribute to Sambhaji’s bravery and sacrifice.” Bad editing and the Maratha ruler’s excessive superherofication stand in the way of achieving that purpose. It is only when we see him humanized that the film connects.”
