After Guneet Monga, Priyanka Chopra joins the Oscar-nominated short film Anuja as an executive producer. ‘Very proud.’

Priyanka Chopra is overjoyed since she has signed on as an executive producer for the Academy Award-nominated film Anuja, which is also produced by Guneet Monga.

Priyanka Chopra, a global icon, is overjoyed to have been named executive producer for the Oscar-nominated movie Anuja.

Anuja revolves around the nine-year-old main girl, who works in a back alley garment factory alongside her older sister Palak. The narrative centers on a young protagonist who faces a choice with profound consequences for both her own future and her family’s well-being.

Discussing her involvement with the film, Priyanka shared, “This poignant movie highlights an issue that millions of children globally grapple with—the impossible dilemma of choosing between an uncertain future and the harsh realities they currently endure.”

She mentioned, “Anuja is a profoundly emotional and thought-stirring narrative that urges us to ponder the impact of our choices and the way they influence the direction of our lives.” I am extremely delighted to be affiliated with such an amazing and significant endeavor.”

The film was made in conjunction with the Salaam Baalak Trust (SBT), a non-profit formed by Mira Nair’s family to help street and working children, Shine Global, recognized for Academy Films that have received prestigious awards, including War/Dance (2007), Inocente (2012), and productions from Krushan Naik Films. Mindy Kaling is a producer on the film. Oscar winner Guneet Monga Kapoor has also joined Anuja as a producer.

This could be Monga’s third chance at an Oscar nomination. Her earlier works, *The Elephant Whisperers* and *Period: End of Sentence*, both earned Academy Awards, highlighting the global acknowledgment of Indian cinema.

Aside from Anuja, another Indian film still in the Oscar sweepstakes is Santosh, a British-Indian film directed by Sandhya Suri. Santosh, which stars Shahana Goswami, is the UK’s official Oscar entry. The movie made its debut earlier this year in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival.
